Power supply could not be restored in some of the areas in southern districts of Bangladesh until 12:30 pm on Tuesday after Cyclone Sitrang hit last night.
According to official sources, the upazilas which remain without power are mainly connected with Kathalia-Char Fashion and Bhanga-Sadarpur grid lines.
“We hope we can restore power supply through the Bhanga-Sadarpur grid soon. But restoring the 33kV Kathalia-Char Fashion grid line may take time, maybe up till this evening,” Azharul Islam, managing director of West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd (WZPDCL), told UNB.
He noted that almost all of the 460 feeder lines and most of the substations were affected by Cyclone Sitrang that triggered hours-long blackout across the southern region.
“Gradually, our teams have been restoring electricity in the 33kV grid lines and 11kV feeder lines,” he said adding that power supply has been restored in most areas.
He said that as an effect of Cyclone Sitrang, many trees collapsed on the feeder lines that led to the breakdown of the power supply system.
He said only some districts including Khulna, Kushtia and Jashore experienced relatively less disturbances during Cyclone Sitrang.
