As per the government’s directive, highest 10 people are allowed to attend the Jum’a prayers at a mosque.
In-charge of Charmahmudpur police out-post sub-inspector Md Shah Alam said a large number of people went to attend the Jum’a prayers at the mosque which triggered a dispute.
Chunnu Matbar and his accomplices locked into an argument with Imam and Muazzin over the excessive number of devotees, he said.
At one stage, Matbar and his men beat up devotees, including the muezzin, triggering clash, the SI added.
The injured were admitted to Upazila Health Complex.
On April 6, the Ministry of Religious Affairs directed all to avoid mosques and offer prayers at home to prevent the transmission of fast-spreading coronavirus or COVID-19.
Meanwhile, six more people died from coronavirus in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 27. The country has so far confirmed 424 cases.
