A man was killed after being run over by a truck in Sadar upazila of Kushtia while returning home on a motorcycle after learning of his father's death on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Nur Alam Jiku, 45, son of late Jashim Uddin of Lalnagar village in Daulatpur upazila. He worked in Magura.
According to locals and police, Jiku was returning home from Magura on a motorcycle with his brother-in-law after receiving news that his father died.
When they reached the Swastipur area under Alampur union in Sadar upazila on the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway around 9:00pm, the motorcycle collided with a sand-laden truck while they were trying to overtake it.
Jiku lost control of the motorcycle, fell onto the road and was run over by the truck. He died on the spot.
His brother-in-law was injured in the accident and was taken to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment.
Kazi Hasanur Zaman, officer-in-charge of Chourhas Highway Police Station, said police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Kushtia General Hospital.
The truck fled the scene immediately after the accident, he said.
The deaths of the father and son in such quick succession have cast a pall of gloom over their family and the area.
