The Special Response Battalion (SRB) has arrested a death-row convict who escaped from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail on August 6, 2024, amid unrest following the July uprising.
The convict was identified as Sohel Rana, 38, who was sentenced to death in 2019 for murdering his 20-year-old neighbour Md Zahir and dismembering his body.
SRB-4 Commanding Officer Lt Col Md Hafizur Rahman disclosed the information at a press conference at the SRB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar on Wednesday.
He said an SRB-4 team arrested Rana from Azimpur in Singair upazila of Manikganj on Tuesday evening.
A Manikganj court sentenced Rana to death in 2019 for killing Zahir, cutting his body into six pieces and dumping them at different locations.
Rana was sent to Kashimpur High Security Central Jail following the verdict.
On August 6, 2024, he escaped from the facility after damaging jail infrastructure and injuring guards amid the nationwide unrest.
