“When the government and political party work for people with honesty and sincerity, the nation achieves progress and wellbeing. If we can stay beside people irrespective of political mindset in order to fulfill their basic needs, it will bring about a new chapter in the politics of Bangladesh. This will be the best achievement of Mujibborsho. “

He made the remarks while addressing a programme titled 'Mujib Chirantan' marking the 50 years of Independence and the birth centenary celebration of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari attended the event as Guest of Honour while President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received the Nepalese President at the venue.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the programme while the President of Nepal delivered a statement on the theme of “Nepal-Bangladesh Relations and Bangabandhu’s Birth Centenary.

Hamid recalled with deep appreciation the unstinting moral and material support that the political leaders and people of Nepal extended to Bangladesh during our War of Liberation in 1971.

Nepal was one of the pioneer countries to recognize Bangladesh in January, 1972 , said Hamid adding that in recognition of the support, in 2012 and 2013, Bangladesh honoured 11 distinguished Nepali nationals as 'Friends of Bangladesh.

Mentioning the celebration of Mujibborsho as an appropriate attempt in order to disseminate the life, thoughts and political philosophies of Bangabandhu to all, the President said there is no scope to separate Bangabandhu and Bangladesh.

"Let Bangladesh move ahead towards a hunger and poverty-free status, with the ideals of the Father of the Nation and the spirit of the War of Liberation," he said.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is an institution, an entity, a history, not a name said Hamid adding "As long as there will be Bangladesh, there will be Bangalee people, Bangabandhu will remain as the source of inspiration till that day as he has enlightened the whole world as a guiding star for the emancipation of the oppressed and exploited people.

He also asked the concerned to take steps so that our future generations grow up imbued with the principles and ideals of Bangabandhu and the spirit of the War of Liberation.

Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari arrived here on a two-day state visit to attend the ongoing celebrations and hold talks with Bangladesh leadership to take forward the growing relations.

The Nepalese President arrived here at the invitation of President Abdul Hamid.

President Hamid received his Nepalese counterpart upon her arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by a special flight of Nepal Air at about 10am.

A red carpet was rolled out to welcome the Nepalese President.

Both the Presidents and their delegation members properly maintained health rules due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Besides, the Nepalese President was given a guard of hpnour by a smartly-turned out contingent drawn from Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force at the airport.

The Bangladesh President and his Nepalese counterpart received the state honour from a makeshift dais while the national anthem of the respective states was played.

Later, the state guest also inspected the parade at the airport.

From the airport, the Nepalese President went to the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar to pay tributes to the Liberation War heroes by placing wreaths and signed the visitors’ book there and planted a sapling.

She also visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi to pay tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
