Divers on Tuesday retrieved the body of a worker, who went missing after a bulkhead sank in Sandhya River after hit by another launch in Ujirpur upazila of Pirojpur district on Monday night, from Khejurbari in Banaripara upazila of Barishal district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Kalam, 55, of Nanduhar in Nesarabad upazila of Pirojpur district.
On Monday, a bulkhead sank in the Sandhya River after being hit by a launch named ‘MV Morning Sun-9’ at Mirerhat in Ujirpur upazila while heading towards Dhaka from Pirojour’s Bhandaria upazila.
Two workers identified as Milon and Kalam--of the bulkhead had gone missing.
Besides, the launch had developed a crack in the bottom that created panic among 500 passengers of the launch.
The launch later anchored at Chowdhuryhat in Borokotha union of Pirojpur district.
On information, a team of local police, divers from local Fire Service and Civil Defence and BIWTA officials rushed to the spot and repaired the launch. It left for Dhaka with 100 passengers around 3 am after being repaired , said Ujirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fariha Tanjin.
No complaint has been lodged yet. Legal steps will be taken after getting complaint, said SM Masud Ali, officer-in-charge of Ujirpur Police Station.
