ICPC final round will be held at Portugal’s University of Porto from March 31 to April 5. Fifty-five thousand contestants from 3,100 universities of 111 countries will compete for the title.
ICPC Dhaka Zone Champion Descifrador and runner-up Buet Blood Hound are scheduled to represent Bangladesh at the event.
As there is no Portuguese embassy in Bangladesh, Descifrador members said they applied for short-stay visa from French embassy on February 21, only to be rejected on March 4.
The authorities listed submission of unreliable information to justify the purpose of their intended visit and uncertainty of leaving EU territory within the visa expiration date as reasons for declining their application.
Descifrador assistant coach Mehedi Hasan Nahid said the team has contacted the foreign ministry for sorting out the issue.
“The team is frustrated,” said Bishwapriya Chakrabarty, another assistant coach. “Even the runner up team from Buet has got visa confirmed.”
