Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, also chairman of the BNP, held a meeting with leaders of the party and its affiliated organisations in Chandpur on Saturday night.
The meeting began at 8pm at Chandpur Club, said Atiqur Rahman Rumon, additional press secretary to the PM.
The prime minister presided over the one-and-a-half-hour meeting, where organisational matters were discussed.
During the meeting, he listened to party leaders’ views on the local political situation and provided necessary instructions.
Among others, District BNP President Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik, Mominul Haque and Rasheda Begum Hira were present.
Rumon said Tarique Rahman’s convoy left for Dhaka at 9:35pm.
Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka for Chandpur by road from his Gulshan residence at around 8:45am.
This is Tarique Rahman’s first visit to Chandpur as Prime Minister and his first trip to the district in 22 years. He last visited Chandpur in 2004, during the party's last stint in government, when he was serving as a Senior Joint Secretary General of the BNP.
