MA Hamid, Judge of the First Additional District and Sessions Court, pronounced the verdict against the trio including former SI of police Chinmoy Mistry of Barishal Metropolitan Police.
Drug peddlers Nidhu Mistry and Rubel, Chinmoy’s partners in crime, were the other two found guilty.
While Chinmoy was awarded a five-year jail sentence, Nidhu and Rubel each got 3 years.
According to the case statement, in 2016, police conducting a drive in the area adjacent to Infra Polytechnic College of the city detained drug dealer Nidhu Mistry along with 48 bottles of phensedyl.
After detention Nidhu Mistry informed the police that on a monthly salary of Tk 10,000 he used to sell drugs supplied by former SI of Barishal Metropolitan Police Chinmoy Mistry.
Rubel Bepary, who is absconding, was also employed by Chinmoy to sell drugs.
Before getting caught, then-SI Chinmoy and his accomplice Bellal Gazi gave Nidhu a consignment of 300 bottles of phensedyl to sell.
