Police have strengthened surveillance across key transport hubs in Patuakhali to ensure safe and hassle-free travel during Eid-ul-Fitr, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Barishal Range Mostafizur Rahman said on Thursday.
He made the remarks at a press briefing at a local bus terminal following his surprise visit to check the law and order situation in the district.
Noting that both Barishal Range Police and Patuakhali District Police have adopted comprehensive operational plans centering Eid travel, he said surveillance has been intensified on highways, bus terminals and launch ghats to prevent extortion and ensure smooth passenger movement.
Special measures have also been taken to curb crimes such as theft, robbery, pickpocketing, mugging and activities of organised criminal groups locally known as ‘Molom Party’ and ‘Oggyan Party,’ he added.
“Our top priority is to ensure that people can travel safely and without disruption during Eid. Police personnel have been deployed in the field with maximum alert,” the DIG said.
Senior police officials, transport leaders and local journalists also attended the event.
