Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury moved the bill and it was passed by voice vote.
As per the proposed law, licences will be required for running warehouses and cold storages.
According to the bill, the punishment for 13 offences, including doing business activities without licence, handing over a licence to others and charging extra money than fixed rents or market charges will be maximum one year of imprisonment or Tk one lakh fine or both. The punishment will be doubled in case of repetition of such offences.
There will be four committees -- National Agriculture Marketing Coordination Committee, District Agriculture Marketing Coordination Committee, Upazila Agriculture Marketing Coordination Committee and Market Based Management Committee.
No case can be accepted under the law without having any written complaint by the Director General of Agricultural Marketing or any other person authorised by him.
In the proposed law, there is also a provision of conducting mobile court against such offences.
The proposed law also defined the functions of the Department of Agricultural Marketing.
