Transport for London (TfL) will provide technical assistance to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to enhance its transport system.
A delegation from TfL met with DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz at his office in Gulshan Nagar Bhaban on Thursday afternoon.
The delegation included traffic management experts Ruth Salmon, Sian Huston, and Nicola Brady.
TfL will assist DNCC in three key areas: network management, bus operations, and safety. Initially, the program will begin as a pilot project in the Gulshan-1 and Gulshan-2 areas.

The technical assistance will be provided with financial backing from the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
DNCC Administrator Azaz said that Transport for London (TFL) is well-known all over the world.
He mentioned that TfL's expertise and technical support will significantly contribute to improving traffic management, particularly in the Gulshan area, focusing on public transport development and ensuring the safe movement of people.
“If network management and bus services in the Gulshan area are successful, the model will be expanded to other areas in phases, " he added.

Earlier in November 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between DNCC and the FCDO to develop modern transport systems, traffic signals, and reduce traffic congestion in the DNCC area. The two organizations have already begun working on the transport system's first phase.
DNCC Chief Engineer Brig. Gen. Md. Moin Uddin, Superintendent Engineer Khandaker Mahabub Alam, Executive Engineer (Traffic Engineering Circle) Nayem Raihan Khan were also present in the meeting.
