Six people, including two women, were killed in a collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Shibpur upazila of the district on Saturday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique, 40, son of late Abdur Rashid Fakir of Boilab village, Chakradha union of Shibpur upazila, CNG driver Shahin Mia, 35, son of Rahi Uddin of Satpara village, Marufa Begum, 23, daughter of Samir Uddin of Chakabgadi village of Ekduaria union of Monohardi upazila, Faruq Mia, 55, and his wife Nayantara, 50 of Mirzachar village of Raipura upazila and Mustafa Mia, 48, of Mirzarchar area of the same upazila.
One dead, 15 injured in Dinajpur bus accident
According to police, a CNG-run auto rickshaw carrying five passengers departed for Manohardi from Itakhola around noon on Saturday.
As it approached Pacharbari Namaksthan near C&B Bazar in Chakradha Union, it was involved in a head-on collision with a cement-laden truck (Dhaka Metro-U 14-2849) coming from the opposite direction, resulting in the immediate deaths of all six individuals, including the autorickshaw driver.
Afzal Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Shibpur Model Police Station, said that the bodies were recovered and sent to the morgue at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsies.
The police have seized both the truck and the autorickshaw involved in the accident, and the truck driver has been detained.
The OC said that reckless driving may have been a contributing factor to the incident.
