Two cousins were killed after a running train hit them while they were taking a selfie in Ullapara Upazila of Sirajganj District on the Dhaka–Ishwardi railway line on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Faisal Kabir, 25, son of Akter Hossain of Dhukuria Bera village in Belkuchi Upazila, and Al Fesani, 24, son of Abdul Latif Pramanik of the same upazila.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon while they were taking a selfie with blooming shimul flowers near the Ghatina railway bridge in Ullapara upazila.
Dulal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sirajganj Bazar Railway Police Station (GRP), said rows of shimul trees on both sides of the Ghatina railway bridge have created scenic beauty as the flowers bloom in spring. Many people, including young men and women, gather there every day to enjoy the view and take selfies.
On Thursday afternoon, the two youths left their motorcycles near the bridge to take pictures of the flowers. At that time, a Dhaka-bound high-speed train hit them, killing Faisal Kabir on the spot.
Locals rescued the other youth, Al Fesani, in critical condition and took him to Sirajganj General Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
On information, police recovered the bodies from the spot in the evening and brought them to the police station.
A case has been filed with the concerned police station in this regard, the OC added.
