British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke has said the United Kingdom looks forward to working closely with the new government and with all Bangladeshis on their shared priorities as the country moves forward.
"A peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Bangladesh is in all our interests," she said while speaking at a Iftar reception at her residence recently.
The UK is now the global co-chair of the Media Freedom Coalition.
One of the key priorities is supporting a free and independent media, along with the protection of human rights, which form essential foundations of any functioning democracy, she said.
"At a time when the world is becoming increasingly turbulent and fragmented, this commitment is more important than ever," said the British High Commission.
She said they aim to support viable, public‑interest journalism; help societies navigate both the opportunities and risks created by new technologies; and address the specific challenges faced by women journalists.
