She made the announcement while speaking at a preparatory meeting to celebrate the ‘Mujib Borsho’ held at her official residence Ganobhaban.
Bangladesh will celebrate the ‘Mujib Borsho’ from March 17, 2020 to March 26, 2021 through various programmes marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Unesco took the decision at its 40th General Assembly held at its headquarters in Paris recently.
President of the Unesco General Assembly Altay Cengizer and its Director General Audrey Azoulay were present at the assembly.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, who was present at the preparatory meeting to celebrate the ‘Mujib Borsho’, briefly described different aspects of the Unesco’s decision.
She said Unesco took the decision unanimously at the plenary session of its 40th General Assembly held at the Unesco Headquarters in Paris on November 25 to celebrate the ‘Mujib Borsho’ together with Bangladesh.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj on March 17, 1920.
A year after his 100th birth anniversary, Bangladesh will celebrate the golden jubilee of independence on March 26, 2021.
Programmes on different occasions such as Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day, Awami League’s founding anniversary, National Mourning Day and Jail Killing Day will be organised in coordination with the ‘Mujib Barsho’.
Chief Coordinator of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury highlighted various aspects of the birth centenary programmes through a PowerPoint presentation.
He said the inaugural function will begin at 4pm on March 17, 2020 at the National Parade Square.
The programmes include flypast under the Armed Forces Division, performing instrumental songs by 100 artistes, performing theme songs in Bangla and English, 55-minute cultural function and laser show.
He said "Sraddha Smarak" will be handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangabandhu's younger daughter Sheikh Rehana.
Kamal said President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will deliver their speeches at the opening function and later the Prime Minister will inaugurate the programmes of the ‘Mujib Borsho’.
Besides, some heads of state and government will address the function.
After the PowerPoint presentation, the Prime Minister gave various directives to make the ‘Mujib Borsho’ programmes a success.
National Professors Dr Rafiqul Islam and Anisuzzaman, former Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim, PM's Advisers HT Imam, Dr Gowher Rizvi, Dr Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and Salman Fazlur Rahman, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam, Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hassan, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt Gen Md Mahfuzur Rahman and other members of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee were present at the meeting.
