Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said that the visiting US delegation sought a proper investigation into the killing of labour leader Shahidul Islam.
The minister said this to journalists after a meeting with the delegation led by Under Secretary Uzra Zeya at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
The delegation also included US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and Deputy Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Asia of the USAID, Anjali Kaur, among others.

Regarding the investigation into the killing of the labour leader, the law minister said, “I clearly told them that Bangladesh has no culture of impunity, justice is ensured upon investigation of any crime in Bangladesh now, and there will be no exception in this case either.”
The law minister also said, “No discussion on caretaker government happened as they didn’t bring it up.”

Reiterating his previous stance, Anisul said they had talks on the Digital Security Act and he informed the US delegation that amendments to the act will be brought in September.
“They (the US delegation) said that they want to see free, fair and neutral elections in all countries,” he said, adding, “My secretary yesterday informed the EU’s Election Exploratory Mission (ExM) that the legal framework Bangladesh has is enough to hold a free and fair election.”
