A woman was sentenced to death and fined Tk 50,000 on Tuesday in a case filed over the killing of her husband in Bhola.
Judge Md Enayet Ullah of the Bhola Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court handed down the verdict in the afternoon.
According to the prosecution, Farhad Hossain Titu, 40, was called to the house of his second wife, Nurunnahar Begum, on the night of October 23, 2021.
His bloodied body was recovered from the house in Alinagar Union of Bhola Sadar upazila the following morning. The body bore injuries caused by a sharp weapon.
Following the incident, the deceased's first wife, Mahmuda Begum, filed a murder case against six people, including Nurunnahar, with the court.
However, after investigating the case, police said in their report that they found no evidence of involvement in the murder against the other five accused.
Nurunnahar remained in jail for a long time during the trial and was later released on bail.
On the final day of the hearing, the court ordered her to be sent back to jail after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defence lawyers. She has remained in jail since then.
State lawyer Advocate Alhaj Habibur Rahman Bachchu said both the prosecution and the plaintiff were satisfied with the verdict.
