“Women of the country are progressing in every sector. This is what Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted...because of PM Sheikh Hasina’s precise thinking, women are no more lagging behind,” he said.
He made the remarks at a discussion on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s contribution in women empowerment arranged by Media for Development and Peace (MDP) at Jatiya Press Club.
Asaduzzaman Khan highlighted that in each sector where a female administrative officer has been deployed, they have thrived.
“Bangladesh became a food surplus country for the first time under the current government’s rule and that too because of a woman... then Agricultural Minister Matia Chowdhury made it possible,” he continued.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury highlighted further positive effects of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership.
“Women empowerment in Bangladesh has reached new heights for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, former Dhaka University Vice-chancellor, said with the increase in female education, women will go further.
Former Supreme Court judge AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik said women are the prime factor behind the country’s thriving RMG sector.
Farida Yasmin, General Secretary of the Jatiya Press Club, herself a bit of a pioneer as the first woman to occupy her current post; Nazma Binte Alamgir, General Manager (public relations) of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and television journalist Shahnaz Munni also spoke at the programme.
