Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has said that the law enforcement agencies would deal strongly with any attempt to stoke any sort of instability from the BNP rally on October 28.
The IGP said this while briefing reporters after visiting the puja pandal at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Ashram in Mission Para area of Narayanganj city on Saturday night.
“We stand with all of them by declaring solidarity so that the Hindu community can celebrate Durga Puja festival in a fair manner through religious harmony. We have visited various puja pandals and assured them that the police are on their side at all times so that they can celebrate the religious festival safely and comfortably,” said the IGP.
The IGP said so far the puja is being celebrated peacefully across the country. “We hope that the remaining days till the immersion of the idol will be completed peacefully with enthusiasm like last year.”

Replying to a question on whether BNP’s ongoing political programmes in recent times could create any hurdle in Durga Puja festival, the IGP said there is no obstacle in the political parties to carry out their political programmes. However, strict action will be taken against anyone who poses a threat to the safety of people's lives and property.
“Police are ready to deal with any eventuality. We will take whatever measures are necessary to protect people's lives and property and protect public property. We have taken security measures across the country irrespective of the situation,” added Mamun.

Later, the IGP visited several puja pandals in the city and enquired about the overall security arrangements from the district superintendent of police. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahmudul Haque and leaders of the District Puja Udjapan Parishad were present on the occasion.
