The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed Tuesday's trading session on a downtrend despite an increase in transaction volume, which rose to Tk 383 crore, up from Tk 278 crore in the previous session.
The DSE's main index, DSEX, declined marginally by 0.14 points, settling at 5,166.83 points, compared to Monday’s 5,166.98 points. In contrast, the Shariah-based DSES index saw a slight rise of 0.42 points, ending at 1,154.54 points, while the DS30 blue-chip index dropped by 0.43 points to close at 1,903.54 points.
Trading activity increased notably, with 16.32 crore shares and units exchanged through 131,043 transactions. This marks a rise from Monday’s 12.72 crore shares traded in 109,069 transactions. The total value of transactions on Tuesday reached Tk 383 crore, Tk 105 crore higher than the previous session.
DSE ends on a downtrend; index falls by 11.99 points
Market sentiment remained subdued, however, as most stocks lost value amid a sell-off fueled by small investors concerned about declining prices.
Of the 405 issues traded, 185 saw price gains, 147 declined, and 73 remained unchanged.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended the day on a downtrend. The CASPI, the CSE’s benchmark index, dropped by 32.05 points to settle at 14,439.80 points.
On the CSE, 208 companies participated in trading. Among them, 74 recorded price gains, 97 faced declines, and 37 remained unchanged. A total of 26.77 lakh shares and units were traded through 1,780 transactions, with a trading value of Tk 6.97 crore, an increase from Tk 6.25 crore on Monday.
