Corporate leader Kamran Bakr has joined the Robi Axiata board as an independent non-executive director.
Earlier, Kamran led Unilever Bangladesh from 2012 to 2017 as its chairman and managing director and Unilever Nepal as its managing director from 2007 to 2011.
He also served as the non-executive chairman of Unilever Bangladesh from 2018 till mid-2020.
"Kamran replaced Thayaparan Sangarapillai. He will also serve as the chairman of the Board Risk and Compliance Committee," the country's second-largest mobile network operator Robi said on Monday.
Robi Board Chairman Dato' Izzaddin Idris said: "The depth of Kamran's corporate experience especially in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) business and his fresh insights will serve the board well in charting a solid growth path for Robi."
"We look forward to his stewardship in realising Robi's vision for a digitally inclusive future, aligning with our broader goal of advancing Asia."
Robi Axiata is a public limited company where Asian telecom giant Axiata Group Berhad holds the majority of shares – 61.82%.
Aside from the public shareholders – 10% – the global telecom giant, Bharti Airtel holds 28.18% of shares in the company.
