Bangladesh received US$ 1.788 billion in remittances during the first 16 days of August, registering a sharp 41.4 percent growth compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to the latest data released by Bangladesh Bank on Monday, remittance inflows stood at $1.264 billion during the corresponding period (August 1-16) last year.
In the four days between August 13 and August 16 alone, expatriate workers remitted $289 million into the country through formal banking channels.
The strong momentum in August further consolidated cumulative remittance earnings for the current fiscal year.
Total remittance inflow from July 1 to August 16, 2026 reached $4.647 billion – up by 24.2 percent from $3.742 billion recorded during the same period in fiscal year 2025-26. This represents an increase of $905 million in overall remittance receipts year-on-year.
Financial analysts and central bank officials attribute the robust upward trend to increased formal-channel banking transfers and steady participation by Bangladeshi expatriates abroad, providing a significant boost to the country's foreign exchange reserves and macroeconomic stability.
