The government has formed a high-level National Task Force on Deregulation and Business Facilitation to accelerate economic activity and investment by simplifying regulations, reducing business barriers and improving the ease of doing business.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury will lead the Task Force where some other relevant ministers and advisers of the Prime Minister have been included.
The task force has been formed under the Cabinet Division through a gazette notification issued on Sunday, with representatives from key government agencies and leading business organisations included in the body.
The initiative is aimed at developing a reform roadmap for deregulation and business facilitation and ensuring its implementation through coordinated measures.
The task force will review existing rules, regulations and procedures related to business and investment and identify areas where unnecessary regulatory hurdles can be removed or simplified. It will also examine opportunities to introduce more efficient and investor-friendly systems.
According to the gazette, the task force will work on measures including the introduction of a Single Window, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), deemed or automatic approval mechanisms, online tracking and other digital services to make government services faster and more predictable for businesses.
It will also review regulatory and administrative procedures and recommend reforms to facilitate business operations, investment and economic activities.
The task force includes representatives of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC), Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), among others.
The gazette also assigns the task force to work with Invest Bangladesh Authority on measures including a dedicated website and grievance redress mechanism to improve investor services and address complaints more efficiently.
The move comes as Bangladesh seeks to boost private investment, improve competitiveness and create a more conducive environment for domestic and foreign investors.
By reducing regulatory complexity and making public services more transparent and time-bound, the government expects the reforms to support faster business decisions, attract fresh investment and contribute to sustained economic growth.
The task force will submit its recommendations and undertake follow-up measures in accordance with the terms of reference set out in the gazette.
