Smriti Irani has confirmed that businessman and philanthropist Bill Gates will make a special appearance in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, calling it a “historic moment” for Indian television.

Reports earlier suggested that Gates would appear via video call in three episodes of the limited series. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Irani said, “This marks a historic moment in Indian entertainment. For far too long, women’s and children’s health has remained at the margins of mainstream dialogue. This initiative is a powerful step towards changing that.”

A new promo for the series, featuring Irani as Tulsi Virani, teases the guest appearance with the caption: “Kaun hai yeh mehmaan... jisse milne ka sabko intezaar hai?”

According to a source quoted by ETimes, the storyline around Gates’ cameo will focus on maternal and newborn health awareness. “Since the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation actively works on these causes, the collaboration happened naturally. Smriti wanted to use the show as a platform to promote health and social awareness through storytelling,” the source said.

Irani, who returned to acting with the revival of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, has been weaving social issues into the show’s narrative. “We took up the issue of ageing and body shaming because these are fundamental challenges women face every day,” she told Mumbai Mirror.

She also discussed a recent plotline involving her on-screen daughter filing a false case of domestic violence against her in-laws, saying, “Can we stand up for such men? That is not something you would normally expect on a television show or film.”
