The Korean drama, thriller, horror fiction series Squid Game was released on Netflix in September 2021. This drama series was at its peak of popularity within a few days of its release. While the Squid Game's making cost is around $21 million, Netflix earned more than $900 million. The first had 9 episodes. Now there is speculation about releasing the Squid Game Season 2 on Netflix. The series is a story of some defeated and troubled people who are frustrated in the battle of life. In this series, 456 debt-ridden contestants take part in a special game. The final winner will get 39 million US dollars. On the other hand, each eliminated person will get killed. This was the main plot, and the players had to take part in 6 different games in a 9-episode series.

In reality, people do anything for money in different situations but rarely bet their life. On the other hand, 456 people bet their life for money in Squid Game. This seems unrealistic, and Hwang Dong got denied by almost all the production houses in 2009.

Twelve years later, in 2021, the landscape of the world has changed a lot. Now such strange and violent survival stories are considered a regular genre. So, Dong approached Netflix, and they have shown interest.

By 2019 Netflix became one of the leaders in the OTT platform industry, and they worked with unique stories and plots. As Netflix has varieties in their content,  Huang approached them. In 2019, Netflix showed interest in making a series with this story and made an official announcement about making the series in September of that year. Through Squid Games, Hwang Dong-hyuk started his journey with a big and international production house.

Although the series was initially named 'Round Six' as the players needed to play six games, it was later renamed 'Squid Game,’ after the popular Korean game.

Squid Game season 2 on Netflix Cast, plot, probable release date

As there is no official announcement about Season 2, we have collected data from all the possible sources.

Although it is not sure if Netflix will make the season 2, the popularity of the series surely demands a season 2. By looking at the first season, it is clear that we cannot expect popular faces as a cast. So, we are expecting to see some new or less popular cast in the Squid Game season 2.

But, Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed in a Q&A in Los Angeles that Season 2 is a go, and he is planning for it. But Netflix is yet to renew the contract and confirm the deal.

The speculated release date for Squid Game could be in 2023 or later. However, this date is a prediction. And there is a possibility that there will be no Squid Game Season 2.
