To preserve the memory of July and revive the spirit of the July Movement among everyone, the anti-fascist photo exhibition organised by Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has concluded at National Museum at Shahbagh.

Titled 'Frame-a-Bondi 36 July: Obbhyutthyan er Purbapor’ (‘Framed Memories on 36 July: Before and After the Coup') the display came to a close on Monday.

The three-day exhibition began earlier on Saturday (December 7) with the inauguration announced by Shibir’s central president Monzurul Islam at the Poet Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the National Museum.

Concluded with the closing announcement by Secretary General of Islami Chhatra Shibir Jahidul Islam on Monday, the exhibition showcased historic photographs highlighting the moments of the July 36 Movement, and shed the spotlight on the stories behind the movement and its martyrs' sacrifices, the consequences of the mass uprising, and the brave struggle of the students against the dictatorship.

Joined by thousands of students, parents, and people from all walks of life, the exhibition featured family members of the martyrs who recounted their experiences and memories, and the injured people who participated in the movement also narrated their stories.

From the first day to the initially scheduled two-day event, the audience explored various moments of the movement through the photographs and also cartoons and caricatures, feeling the emotions of that time again. Due to the demand of the aspiring visitors, the exhibition was extended by one day.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman visited the exhibition on its concluding day and said: “The young martyrs of the July Movement who took to the field at the risk of their lives, those brave children who created and uttered such brave and inspiring slogans - they were shot and killed, their lives were snatched away from their parents. Those who committed such genocide, those hyenas must face the judgement and highest punishment in this land of Bengal - and this should be the main priority of the current government.”

He said that history cannot be allowed to be erased, so through exhibitions like these, the real history should be brought forward so that the country’s future heroes can get inspired to fight the battle for their motherland. He also urged everyone to cherish the victory and the justice that the entire nation witnessed on August 5.

Students from various educational institutions, political figures, social movement leaders, and student organization leaders visited the three-day exhibition, along with leaders of various levels of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Convener of the anti-discrimination student movement Hasnat Abdullah, coordinator Abdul Kader, Abu Bakr Majumder, Hasib Al Islam and other central members and co-coordinators, Islamic Arabic University Professor Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Sher-E-Bangla Agricultural University VC Professor Dr Abdul Latif, Human Rights Support Society Chief Adviser and National Disappearance Commission Member Nur Khan Liton, Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, eminent photographer Shahidul Alam, July Mass Uprising Commemoration Museum committee Convener, teacher and writer Ebadur Rahman, Dhaka University Assistant Proctor Shehreen Amin Monami, Prosecutors of the International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh) and other dignitaries were also among the visitors.
