BNP Vice chairman Shahjahan Omar submits nomination for Jhalakathi-1 as AL candidate


BNP Vice Chairman Shahjahan Omar has submitted his nomination paper as an Awami League candidate for Jhalakathi-1 constituency.

He submitted the nomination paper online on Thursday afternoon, as confirmed by the Assistant Returning Officer of Jhalakathi-1 constituency.

Earlier on Wednesday, Shahajahan was released on bail from Kashimpur Central Jail.

He was arrested in a case filed for setting a bus on fire in Dhaka’s New Market area on November 4.

Asked whether Awami League supporters in his constituency would accept him, Omar said, "It is up to them."

A reporter wanted to know whether he was given any offers. In reply, he said, "I don't give offers to anyone, and I don't accept anyone's offers. I have the quality that will speak."

Shahjahan said now he feels "uncomfortable" with BNP and has joined the Bangladesh Awami League.

"I, with a heavy heart, thereby declare through you that I am no longer a BNP man after 45 years of BNP services. I resign from all the posts of the BNP," he told reporters.
