Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, the student wing of NCP, on Sunday made a call to make the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum universal, representing the historic sacrifices of people from all parts of the country in the July Uprising, and presenting the accurate deeds of the 15-year fascist regime.

In a statement signed by the organization’s general secretary Abu Baker Majumder, Chhatra Shakti said that the July mass uprising was a collective effort of students and people against fascism. The museum was established aiming to preserve the memory of the July Uprising was supposed to be the deeds of oppression by the fascist regime for the last 15 years, as well as the universal memorial museum of July.  

However, an apprehension has arisen now that the museum may become a particular party’s history, it said.

The organization alleged that the ruling party, BNP, has taken aside the memories of ‘historical anti-Modi movement and the killings near the Indian border’, to please India.

“No notable memory of the main platform of the July uprising, anti-discrimination student movement, is present there. It basically presents the incidents that happened in Dhaka ignoring the important roles and memories of people from different districts and rural areas of the country. The innovative naming of various programs during the uprising to motivate the Gen-Z were not given room,” mentioned the statement.

Chhatra Shakti claimed that the museum is not representing the accurate history of the July uprising overall.

The organization urged not to use the museum in narrow partisan interests. Rather, it should be a universal museum presenting the accurate deeds of the last 15 years’ fascist regime and representing the contributions of people from every corner of the country in the July uprising, Chhatra Shakti said.
