Dhaka University unit of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, the student wing of National Citizens’ Party (NCP), held a demonstration today protesting the ongoing crisis of gas, electricity across the country and the increasing price of daily commodities.  

The program was held in front of DU’s Raju sculpture around 6pm, showing hurricane lamps, cooking pots and pans making the event dramatic.  

During the demonstration the protesters are heard chanting slogans such as ‘Bah ajob Tarique Bhai, Khamba ache current nai’, ‘Chula ache gas nai, Bah ajob Tarique bhai’, among others.

The country has gone back to the time of 2002-2004 where the pillars of electricity exist without electricity, claimed DU unit president of Chhatra Shakti Tahmid Al Mudassir Chowdhury.

“Watch out in the villages, you will see the electricity return after 12-13 hours. More astonishingly, the bill rate became more than three times. This is state extortion directly. The government is carrying out robbery directly to fill the pockets of its party’s leaders and activists. For so long, Rezaul Karim Rony, intellectual of BNP, used to talk about institutional extortion- now we are realizing what institutional extortion is.”

Mentioning the civil society and other opposition party’s organizations are not showing concern he said, “We are seeing once again that such an opposition party is being made like before that don’t speak about the problem of gas and electricity. The industries have to compress production for the gas crisis. There is a crisis in the residential area of Dhaka city. People use cylinders but the price of cylinders has been increasing for the last four month in phases.”

Organizing secretary Mohammad Sakib said that there is no pandemic ongoing across the country or world. Bangladesh has not experienced any disaster for the last one year. But Bangladesh has become a country of artificial crisis, disaster and the haven of robbery after assuming office by BNP. 

“We are witnessing the reinless price hike of commodities and abnormal increase in electricity bill. For the last 16-17 days, a gas crisis has persisted in places like Dhaka,” added Sakib.

Sakib said, “Yet, we see in this situation, our PM Vaiya making reels everyday. It’s shameful for us. We got such a PM who is failing to control his cadre forces. Alike, failing to control the price hike of regular basis goods like oil, gas and electricity.”
