Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said that the European Union (EU) wants a free, fair and peaceful election, which is also the commitment of Awami League government.
He said this while speaking with reporters after a meeting of Awami League with the visiting EU delegation at a hotel in the city's Banani area this afternoon.

Quader said the EU delegation wants to see an election here in line with the constitution of Bangladesh. “During the meeting, they were assured of the reforms of the electoral system.”
There was no discussion in the meeting about any possible dialogue, caretaker government, dissolution of parliament or resignation of the prime minister, said Quader.

“We talked about the missions... We didn't say anything in advance,” he added.
Responding to a question, the Awami League general secretary said, "We do not accept any violation of the rules of Bangladesh Constitution regarding the election. The way the election-time government works in other countries of the world, the election-time government will be formed in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
There is no question of dissolving parliament, resignation of the government or the prime minister, he stated.

The nine-member delegation of Awami League, led by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, includes Awami League Advisory Council member and former ambassador Mohammad Zamir, Presidium Member Lt Col (retd) Mohammad Faruk Khan, Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, international relation affairs office secretary Shammi Ahmed, office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, information and research secretary Selim Mahmud, Executive members Mohammad A Arafat and Tarana Halim.
Four EU pre-delegation members, led by head of the EU delegation Celori Ricardo, attended the meeting.
