Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said foreign powers can be friends and development partners but they cannot ensure win in any election.
“We're not looking at anyone. We are looking at the people of Bangladesh. Foreign powers can be friends, development partners but we don’t think in such a peculiar way that they will put us in power ,” he said.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, made the remarks responding to a question from reporters over the upcoming Modi-Biden meeting after attending a branding seminar titled "Start of Operation of MRT 6 from Agargaon to Motijheel" Progress, Prospect and Beyond" at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
The Awami League general secretary said, “BNP leaders go to the US embassy to make complaint just after waking up in the morning. Mirza Fakhrul could not even manage to meet the United Nations Secretary General.”

“Awami League goes to the embassy only when it is invited. We don't do politics of complaining against the country,” he said.
Replying to a question on why voters are less interested in the local government elections, Quader said, there was 50% voter turnout in Gazipur city polls, 40-45% in Barishal and Khulna. So how do you say less? In many developed countries of the world, there is not even 30% voter turnout.”

He also said BNP is planning to repeat the events of 2013-14.
