BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday alleged that the government is trying to force the opposition leaders and activists to leave the field before the next polls by using the law enforcers and judiciary.
“Fresh false cases are being filed against BNP leaders and activists while it’s astonishing that the old cases are being revived. Efforts are also being made to promptly dispose of the cases against them with an objective to oust BNP from the field before the next election,” he said.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office, the BNP leader also said the opposition leaders and activists have been implicated in different ‘false and fabricated’ cases and sent to jail as part of a plot of the government.
He also alleged that the government has increased its various repressive acts against BNP leaders and workers with various tactics.

“As the election draws nearer, the law enforcement agencies and judiciary are being used to eliminate BNP from the political field by involving its leaders and workers in false cases. Their names are being included in cases defying the High Court order. If there’s no (opposition) candidate they (AL) can reach their goal. Their aim is to usurp power again without voting by holding a flawed election by any means,” Fakhrul alleged.
He claimed that the government implicated 50 leaders and activists of BNP, including its joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon and his wife Shireen Sultana, in a false case by committing a conspiratorial murder incident in Narsingdi.

The BNP leader also said Khokon’s local residence and Narsingdi BNP office were vandalised and set on fire. “It’s not a simple incident. “The killing and subsequent arson attacks were carried out by some terrorists with the direct connivance and support of the government's law enforcement forces.”
He also claimed that the false and fictitious murder case was filed against Khokon and other BNP leaders and activists as part of a government conspiracy to foil the ongoing anti-government movement and destroy the Narsingdi unit BNP.
Fakhrul demanded the government carry out an impartial investigation into the recent attacks on BNP leaders and activists, and arson attacks on the BNP office and Khokon’s house and mete out exemplary punishment to the real offenders.
He alleged that their leaders and activists were attacked by Chhatra League and Jubo League in Chattogram on their way to and from a youth rally on Wednesday.
Fakhrul said the BCL activists also vandalised some establishments in the port city to implicate the opposition leaders and activists in a false case. “Police arrested five Jubo Dal leaders in this connection. We strongly condemn the incident and demand the immediate release of those arrested.”
