He vowed to work for reducing traffic congestions, improve education sector and build a pollution-free capital while announcing his manifesto at the Jatiya Press Club.
In the manifesto, Ishraque outlined 144 promises under 13-point with focus on civic amenities, social works and public safety.
He said long-term plans for developing the transport sector will be worked out considering the population boom in the capital in the coming years.
“Keeping the growing population of the capital city in mind, all sorts of transportation system will be there under a coordinated 50-year-long plan that will be implemented in phases,” the BNP candidate said.
He also pledged to take various steps for ensuring better living-standard of the city dwellers. “To ensure the safety of people, a community-based trained and neutral police service will be introduced. Steps will be taken for the rehabilitation of the hawkers.”
Ishraque also has plans to solve the parking problem, including development of the existing parking system, constructing multistoried parking lots and underground parking complexes in commercial areas.
The BNP-backed candidate also assured that chemical factories in residential areas will be relocated for the sake of public safety.
He also vowed to establish a viable Dhaka with a tax base and corruption-free institutional services.
Ishraque promised to take effective measures to prevent dengue and mosquito menace, and provide accommodation for low-income people. “Accountability in every sector will be ensured, if I get elected the DSCC mayor.”
He also said the development of the country is the only way to improve the living standards of its citizens, including the city dwellers.
Putting emphasis on building a pollution-free Dhaka, the BNP mayoral runner said the encroached canals and reservoirs will be recovered and an effective waste-management system will be put in place if he is elected mayor.
Besides, Ishraque said, he will ensure the development of various roads and main thoroughfares of each ward in the city for establishing traffic congestion-free communication system. "A large number of modern footbridges will be constructed at required points along roads. Escalators will be installed at every footbridge in addition to strengthening the overall safety of the city dwellers.”
"One-stop bus service will be launched in the city while special services will be ensured for freedom fighters, senior citizens, the blind, the physically-challenged people, women, children and the disadvantaged ones," he added.
He also said any corruption in the city corporation will not be tolerated if he is elected its mayor.
"I’ll take a zero-tolerance policy against graft within the DSCC once I get elected," Ishraque said while talking to media people after unveiling manifesto.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Khandaker Mosarraf Hossain, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rab, Gano Forum President Reza Kibria and Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna were present at the event.
