BNP Standing Committee Member and Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Mirza Abbas will return home on September 2 after nearly five months of treatment abroad, his wife Afroza Abbas said on Sunday.

Speaking from Malaysia, she said Mirza Abbas is coming back to Bangladesh after receiving clearance from his medical board.

“Alhamdulillah, he is returning home from Malaysia on September 2. All preparations for his return have been completed,” Afroza said.

“We hope to reach Dhaka around 9:30pm on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight,” she said.

Afroza said Mirza Abbas’s physical condition has improved considerably, although he will need to continue treatment after returning home.

“He will have to remain under treatment. He needs therapy every day, and arrangements have been made for that,” she said.

Mirza Abbas was taken to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka after he suddenly lost consciousness while having iftar at his Shahjahanpur residence on March 11 last. A team of neuro specialists subsequently performed brain surgery on him.

On March 15, he was flown by air ambulance to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment, where he remained under treatment for about a month.

After his condition improved, he was discharged from the Singapore hospital and admitted to Prince Court Medical Centre in Malaysia on April 14 on doctors’ advice for physiotherapy.

Afroza said Mirza Abbas has been eager to return home over the past few weeks.

“He has been urging us for the last few weeks to take him home. After reviewing all his medical reports and conducting necessary tests, the medical board has allowed him to return home,” she said.

“However, the medical board has advised that he must receive therapy every day,” Afroza added.
