The health condition of BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed has deteriorated as he suffered a mild stroke.

The authorities of Evercare Hospital, where Moudud was admitted last week, formed a six-member medical board to review his condition and provide him better treatment, BNP vice-chairman Dr AZM Zahid told UNB on Tuesday.

He said the BNP leader has been kept at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital under the close observation of the doctors.

“Moudud Ahmed has been suffering from various diseases, including anaemia, blood pressure, thyroid and heart problems. His condition worsened as he suffered a mild stroke,” Zahid said.

He said he visited the BNP leader today (Tuesday) and talked to the medical board members. “The medical board is unwilling to make any comment right now. They’ll give their observations after 48 hours on Thursday.”

Zahid said they urged the medical board to give a primary report on Moudud’s condition on Wednesday.

He said a pacemaker has been installed to help regulate the BNP leader’s heart function.

Zahid said the veteran BNP leader underwent a coronavirus test twice at the hospital, and the results came negative.

Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir talked to the head of the medical board, Prof Dr Shahabuddin Talukder, and enquired about Moudud’s health condition, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

He said Moudud’s family urged all to pray for his speedy recovery.

On December 29, Moudud Ahmed was admitted to the hospital as he fell ill due to low level of haemoglobin.
