Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, the Nayeeb-e-Ameer (Deputy Ameer) of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has said there is no distance between BNP and Jamaat.

"There is no distance between BNP and Jamaat. In fact, we have a good relationship, and I believe BNP is right in saying that they have no conflict with Jamaat,” Taher said while speaking at a workers' conference in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur district on Saturday.

He said that they expect all political parties to adopt a positive approach, mentioning that BNP has emphasised unity and Jamaat backs their position.

Elaborating Jamaat’s diplomatic approach, the Nayeeb-e-Ameer said, "We aim to maintain good relations with all parties, including Islamic and other political groups, by keeping communication channels open."

Regarding the election reform issue, he described the benefits of the Proportional Representation (PR) system, advocating that it would offer a fairer representation. "PR is a better system than the current one, and it has been successfully implemented in over 62 countries worldwide. It ensures that every individual’s opinion is represented," he explained.

Dr Taher also discussed the possibility of introducing a bicameral parliament in Bangladesh, suggesting that the issue could be considered if all parties agreed.

Responding to questions about Jamaat’s foreign policy, Taher reiterated the party’s commitment to peaceful relations with neighboring countries, including India. "Our foreign policy is clear — we seek good relations based on equality, rights, and the recognition of sovereignty," he said.

He added that Jamaat is committed to a positive change in Bangladesh's political landscape. "We want to end the politics of lies, corruption, and oppression. We aim to create a new vision for Bangladesh and spread positivity in every home."
