Police have filed two separate cases in connection with a clash between the newly formed convener committee of Brahmanbaria district Chhatra Dal and the rank-and-file.
Two sub-inspectors of Sadar Model Police Station filed the cases on charges of explosion and obstructing government work. District and upazila leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal have been accused in these cases.

Emranul Islam, officer-in-charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station, said 49 people have been named as accused in one of the two cases filed. In another case, 33 people have been named as accused and another 50-60 unnamed people were also made accused.
On Thursday, a press release signed by Jahangir Alam, office secretary of Chhatra Dal’s Central Committee, announced the seven-member convener committee of the district. Shahinur Rahman was made convener and Samir Chakraborty was made member secretary.

As the post derived Chhatra Dal men came to know that the newly announced committee members were being greeted at VP Shamim’s Kandipara residence, they attacked the residence.
Then on Saturday night, the newly announced Chhatra Dal committee leaders prepared for a counter attack at Kandipara in the city. Chhatra Dal leaders and activists, who were deprived of this news, attacked them instead. This led to a clash between the two sides. About 50 rounds of bullets were exchanged between the two sides and a crude bomb blast took place. The next day, the police registered a case.
On Monday morning, a faction of the local Chhatra Dal announced to take out a procession after forming another organizing committee from Loknath Dighi ground in the city, where the new Chhatra Dal committee called for a protest march against the corruption and load shedding of the Awami Government.

In such a situation in the city, the new committee changed the venue of its program to the bus stand area of Birasa in the suburbs. On this news, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists attacked the Birasa Bus Stand area.
More than half a dozen crude bombs exploded during the clash. There was a scuffle between the two sides. It spread to Birasa intersection and Khayyasa road. Police fired tear gas to bring the situation under control.
