The Awami League Working Committee has decided not to back candidates with the party's electoral symbol in the upazila elections, AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Monday.
He made the announcement while briefing reporters after a meeting of the party's working committee at Gono Bhaban on Monday.

The decision of the working committee will be finalized at a joint meeting of the party's local nomination board and parliamentary nomination board. However, the decision of the working committee will be upheld, said the AL leader.

“In order to remove the rift among the leaders and activists of the independent candidates and party candidates centring the 12th parliamentary election, all the eight divisional committees of our party have been called to Dhaka and asked to solve it,” he also said.

Regarding nomination for reserved women seats, Quader said the decision will be taken at the meeting of the party's Parliamentary Nomination Board after the announcement of the schedule.
