Police arrested a local BNP leader from Tangail’s Beparipara area in a case filed under the Explosives Substances Act.
Farhad Iqbal, general secretary of BNP’s Tangail district unit, was arrested on Thursday afternoon, said Mohammad Abu Salam Miah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tangail Sadar Police Station.
The BNP leader was arrested following a case filed at Tangail Sadar Police Station on October 29, added the OC.
Apart from this, there are several cases against him and he will be sent to Tangail court on Friday (November 10) after the due procedures, he added.
According to the sources, a total of six cases were filed in Tangail from October 29 to November 4 in different police stations mentioning the names of 194 BNP activists. Another 500 unnamed people were made accused in these cases.
So far, 200 BNP leaders and activists have been arrested in these cases since October 28.
