BNP Standing Committee member Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday said visiting the graves of BNP founder and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia strengthens their resolve to resist any obstacle or conspiracy aimed at destroying the party.
“As soon as we come to the graves, a new resolve and the consciousness of our ideals are awakened within us. We make a fresh pledge,” he said.
Khaleda Zia’s name will remain ‘written in golden letters’ as long as Bangladesh exists: Rizvi
Rizvi made the remarks while talking to journalists after paying homage at the graves of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia along with leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, led by its President SM Jilani, MP, and General Secretary Rajib Ahsan, at Zia Udyan in the capital.
“No matter how many obstacles or impediments come our way in the days ahead, or whatever conspiracy is made nationally or internationally to destroy the BNP, we draw inspiration from coming to the graves of these two great leaders,” he said.
Talking about the BNP-led government, Rizvi said it is moving forward with two major commitments. “One is to strengthen democracy and establish the practice and exercise of democracy in the state and society. The other is to implement the programmes announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman before the election for the welfare of the people,” he said.
Comparing the BNP’s approach with that of the previous Awami League government, he said Sheikh Hasina had promised jobs in every household, but Bangladesh had one of the highest unemployment rates in South Asia during her tenure.
The BNP leader also said Sheikh Hasina had promised free fertiliser ahead of the 2008 election but did not fulfil the pledge.
“Deception, hypocrisy and false promises were the policy of the Awami League. That was the Awami League culture. The BNP culture is to honour commitments and keep promises. That work is now underway,” he said.
BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Assistant Volunteer Affairs Secretary Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel, and leaders from different levels of the party were present at the programme.
