The 8-day-long competition is scheduled to be held at the Clark City in Philippines on September 8-15.
Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) announced the six-member team comprising four archers, all will participate in recurve division and two officials at a pre-tour press conference at the Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of BOA on Friday in the city.
Members of Bangladesh team: Ruman Shana, Tamimul Islam, Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Beauty Roy (Archers), Anisur Rahman Dipu (Manager) and Martin Fredrick (Coach).
Bangladesh archers will compete in the men’s recurve singles, men’s recurve team, men’s recurve mixed team and women’s recurve singles.
Bangladesh Head Coach Martin Fredrick said, “Asia Cup is very important competition in Asian region. We’ve chosen the best archers for the competition. We want to improve our potentials through this competition.”
While asked about the target in the competition, Frederick replied, “We’re aiming for medal and as well as we want to improve our world rankings through this competition.”
BAF General Secretary Kazi Razibuddin Ahmed Chapal, Managing Director and CEO of the meet’s sponsor Modhumoti Bank Ltd. Md Shafiul Azam spoke on the occasion where BAF Vice-Presidents Mahfuzur Rahman Siddique, Anisur Rahman Dipu and media co-ordination Rafiqul Islam Tipu were also present.
Some 15 countries will compete in recurve and compound divisions in the ensuing tournament but the Archery Federation could not send their compound team to the competition due to financial problems.
Replying to query, BAF General Secretary Kazi Razibuddin Ahmed Chapal said, “Our budget was limited, so, we picked best players according to overall performances and skills.”
Modhumoti Bank Ltd, which came forward to sponsor seven local and international archery tournaments and program in 2019 and 2020 including sponsoring the Bangladesh team in the ensuing 2019 Asia Cup-World Ranking Archery tournament, handed a cheque of Tk 30 lakh to the Bangladesh Archery Federation at the same function on Friday.
