Bangladesh posted a modest total of 246/9 in the first ODI of the three-match series against Ireland on Tuesday. Veteran Batter Mushfiqur Rahim scored the only fifty for the tourists.
Bangladesh lost an early wicket after being asked to bat first, as Litton Das was trapped lbw by Josh Little without scoring any runs in the first over. Captain Tamim Iqbal was the next to fall for 14, caught behind by Lorcan Tucker off the bowling of Mark Adair.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan then put on a partnership of 37 runs before Shakib was bowled by Graham Hume for 20 runs. Towhid Hridoy joined Najmul in the middle and played some attacking shots before he was caught behind by Tucker off Hume's bowling for 27 runs.
Mushfiqur Rahim then steadied the Bangladesh innings with a well-made half-century, scoring 61 runs off 70 balls, including six boundaries. He was eventually dismissed by Little, caught by Stephen Doheny. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam played some useful knocks in the middle order, contributing 27 and 14 runs respectively.
However, Ireland's bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals, with Little and Adair picking up three wickets each, while Hume and George Dockrell took two wickets each. Bangladesh finished their innings at 246 for 9 in 50 overs.
This series is a part of the World Cup Super League. Bangladesh have already confirmed their place in the World Cup that will be played in India later this year. But Ireland’s chance is slim as they will have to win this series by 3-0 and wait for the results of the other remaining matches of the Super League.
