The BGB, previously known as Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), established their absolute supremacy in the meet by clinching all the 28 national titles since its inception in 1984, except one in 1988 which won by Bangladesh Air Force.
The winner led the first half by 20-7 goals in the day’s final. Shohag Hossain scored eight goals for the champions while Taju Hasan netted nine goals for the runner-up Bangladesh Police.
Bangladesh Ansar & VDP finished 3rd in the meet beating Bandarban District by 35-24 goals in a place deciding match Wednesday noon.
Later, Rabiul Alam of the Bangladesh Ansar & VDP was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim was the chief guest at the day’s closing ceremony and later he distributed the prizes.
Director of Sun Life Insurance Company Ltd Shaila Bulbul was also present as special guest at the function, chaired by President of Bangladesh Handball Federation AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul.
Earlier in the semifinals on Tuesday, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) smartly booked a seat for the final outplaying Bandarban District by 39-14 goals while Bangladesh Police booked a seat for the final beating Bangladesh Ansar by 36-33 goals.
