The camp ahead of the India tour was uncertain due to the strike. But the cricket board and players came to an understanding to end the impasse.
Along with Vettori, head coach Russell Domingo, pace-bowling coach Charl Langeveldt and trainer Mario Villavarayan also joined the training camp on the first day.
Arafat Sunny, the left-arm spinner who made a comeback to the national side after more than two years, said he is happy to have Vettori as the spin consultant of Bangladesh team.
“As a left-arm spinner, I always try to follow him. He was one of the best spinners during his cricketing days. We are happy that he is our coach now. It was just the first day. I think his inclusion will help us enormously,” Sunny told the media.
“Vettori played a lot of matches in India. He has the experience of coaching in India as well. So he knows the wicket better than any of us. He knows how to bowl better in India. We expect him to help us in this regard,” he added.
All the national players who are in the T20 squad were present in the practice except Shakib Al Hasan. The team management did not reveal the reasons for his absence.
Tamim Iqbal was present but did not join practice as he is suffering from a rib injury.
Bangladesh are slated to play a three-match T20Is series and two-match Test series in India next month. The first T20I will take place on November 3. After the T20Is series, the Tigers will lock horns with the hosts in two Test matches - the first time India have granted a touring Bangladesh side more than a solitary Test.
The first Test will be played in Indore from November 14, followed by the marquee fixture of the entire tour saved for the last. The second Test will start from Nov 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
