The Hockey Champions Trophy Bangladesh 2022 draft, the first franchise league of its kind in the country, was held Monday in Dhaka.
State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russell and Youth and Sports Secretary Mesbahuddin were present at the programme at the Samson H Chowdhury Center of Dhaka Club.
Six franchises – Acme Chattogram, Metro Express Barisal, Monarch Mart Padma, Rupayan Group Cumilla, Saif Powertek Khulna and Walton Dhaka – will compete in the competition, which will begin on October 28 at the Maulana Bhasani National Stadium.
Among the 19 Icon players, Walton Dhaka picked Ashraful Islam, Acme Chattogram Rezaul Karim, Metro Express Barisal Roman Sarkar, Monarch Mart Padma Rasel Mahmud Jimmy, Rupayan Group Cumilla Sohanur Rahman Sabuj and Saif Powertek Khulna Biplob Kujur through a lottery.
All six participating teams recruited around 17 local and foreign players each for the league through a lottery.
Six local Icon players are expected to receive Tk5 lakh each, A+ category players Tk4 lakh, A category players Tk3 lakh, B category Tk2 lakh and C category Tk1 lakh each.
