Twenty-one-year-old batsman Shamim Hossain, who has earned his call-up to the Bangladesh T20 World Cup squad, said it is a new challenge for him.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Thursday announced the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup in Oman and UAE. The Tigers will start their World Cup campaign with the match against Scotland on October 17.
Shamim and Shorfiul Islam, who earned their first call-up to the Bangladesh World Cup team, were part of the side that won the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in early 2020 in South Africa.
"I played in the U-19 World Cup. But now I am up for the challenge of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, which is bigger than that. It is a new challenge for me, and I am ready for it," Shamim told the media
Ahead of the World Cup, Bangladesh won three T20 series against Zimbabwe, Australia and New Zealand. Shamim believes that the team spirit was the main reason behind the recent success of the national team.
Along with his big-hitting ability, Shamim is known for his lightning-fast fielding.
However, the left-handed batsman did not get a chance to represent Bangladesh in the New Zealand series at home that the hosts won 3-1 with one match to play. Shamim might be a part of the playing XI in the final match of the series Friday.
