The innings kicked off with a brisk start from Captain Rohit Sharma and Subman Gill. Kohli took the crease after Gill was retired hurt, eventually reaching his century in 105 balls.

This century marked a historic achievement, with Kohli's 50th in ODIs surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record. Simultaneously, Virat set a new record for the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup, surpassing Sachin in this regard as well.
Following Kohli, Shreyas also notched up a century, scoring 105 off 70 balls, featuring four fours and eight sixes. Gill returned to bat and remained unbeaten at 80 off 66 balls.
