Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan in the only Test on Wednesday, which is the second Test between these two Asian rivals.

In recent years, Bangladesh has tried to make a positive impression as a Test team. Last year, they won a Test in New Zealand and also had some memorable matches at home.

However, the Tigers have never been a team that consistently performs well in Test cricket. With this match, they will look to prove their Test mettle at home, but they will miss the services of Shakib Al Hasan. The regular Test captain is suffering from an injury, which means the Tigers will have to face Afghanistan without their main spinner.

Afghanistan is also undermanned as they will enter the match without Rashid Khan, who is also dealing with an injury.

"We are confident with what we have," said Chandika Hathurusingha, the Bangladesh head coach. "Rashid is their best bowler, and we are also missing Shakib. We don't have much idea about some of their players. This is what we cannot control."

Bangladesh is uncertain about the availability of Tamim Iqbal, the opener who has an injury. However, the coach said that he trained on Tuesday and will undergo a fitness test before the match.

The Tigers have two newcomers, Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Musfik Hasab, in the side for this match. Shahadat is a middle-order batsman while Musfik is a right-arm fast-medium bowler.

While Bangladesh is looking to prove their Test skills against a relatively new Test nation, Afghanistan is looking to win the match.

"Being a Test nation, we have to have an ambition, and that is to win Test matches," said Jonathan Trott, the Afghan head coach on Tuesday in the pre-match press conference.

The first Test between Bangladesh and Afghanistan took place in 2019, which Afghanistan won.

After this Test, the Afghanistan team will go back and return in July to play a three-match ODI and two-match T20 series.
