Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed five wickets in the first innings of the Rawalpindi Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh, as the visitors bowled out the hosts for 274.
The first day of the Test was washed out due to persistent rain and a wet outfield, preventing even the toss. On the second day, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Taskin Ahmed dismissed Abdullah Shafique for a duck, leaving Pakistan with no runs on the board. However, Siam Ayub and Shan Masood put together a partnership of over 100 runs to help Pakistan recover from the early setback.
Both Siam and Shan scored fifties, but Bangladesh continued to apply pressure. In the second session, Bangladesh took four wickets, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz proving that spin would be crucial in this match.
Mehidy eventually took five wickets, his third five-for in an overseas Test, following his performances in Harare and Kingstown. His outstanding bowling restricted Pakistan to 274 runs, with Mehidy finishing with figures of 5 for 61.
Taskin Ahmed was the second-best bowler for Bangladesh, taking three wickets for 57 runs.
In reply, Bangladesh scored 10 runs without losing a wicket by the end of day two.
Bangladesh won the first match of this two-match series at the same venue. If Bangladesh can secure a draw in the ongoing match, it would mark their maiden Test series win over Pakistan.
